An early George Colin's watercolor from the "Found Paper" Collection. This piece measures 10" x 20". Signed on the front and back by Colin. Numbered WAT-21-5-1-1-85.


This is one of George Colin's earliest and quite rare works on "found paper". When George first began, he considered paper too costly for his simple life, so he illustrated his works on paper he could find from discarded packaging. Many of the "found paper" pieces have advertising on the other side from that packaging.

About the artist:

George Colin, who started painting in late 1979 - early 1980, passed away in 2014 at age 84. George Colin is a world-renowned folk artist whose artwork is owned by such collectors as Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, former U.S. President George H. Bush & US Senator Dick Durbin.

A former assembly line flour bagger at Pillsbury Mills in central Illinois, Mr. Colin has had his art displayed at the Smithsonian, New York City's American Folk Art Museum & in many business venues and private collections all over the world.

Among Mr. Colin's many achievements, he illustrated the cover of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's The Band LP album titled "Jubilation" (featuring guest Eric Clapton). In addition, George illustrated the children's book " The Little Turtle" accompanying Vachel Lindsay's poetry.

Colin's paintings are showcased in Chicago's Bigsby & Kruthers clothing store in Lincoln Park, Oprah Winfrey's Eccentric restaurant, and Shaw's Crab House.

George Colin has been the subject of numerous documentaries on P.B.S., Lifetime & Discovery Channel. He has appeared in Art History, People, and Better Homes and Garden magazines to name a few.
