This selection is the 1798 Draped Bust Wreath Large cent. This is one of the coins from the early years of the Philadelphia Mint -- only the 4th year of their production. A lot of varieties exist for these early coins since each die was hand-engraved, and could only strike a few thousand of the many hundreds of thousands of coins needed that year. This coin has Extra Fine details, but with typical contact marks from a 215 year old coin, and a somewhat weaker strike, we net grade this as Fine grade, and price it accordingly. Nearly all of the details in Liberty are found, with date and LIBERTY bold. Customary planchet surfaces, with several marks across Liberty figure. Small rim bump at 11 o’clock. The details on reverse are uneven (usually due to striking), with weakness from 2 to 8 o’clock across the coin, making some rim letters weaker, but ONE CENT very bold. These noted flaws are nearly always found on the first few years of copper coins. A pleasing, original coin for your type set, or to start a very satisfying set of these. Thanks for looking. Enjoy.
