Wow! Here is a rather rare find! This is a Hampden New Railway pocket watch. It is a large heavy 18 size, 44.68 millimeter. This lever set, stem wind pocket watch has a serial number of 3351423 and a manufacture date of 1918, which makes it 104 years old. This watch was the best United States timepiece technology at the time and exceeded the required standards for railroad use. The watch has a gold jewel setting on the movement with real ruby jewels. The watch movement says "New Railway 3351423, The Hampden Watch Co, Double roller, 23 jewels, adjusted to 5 positions, Canton Ohio safety pinion". The watch case says "Illinois Watch Case Co, nickel, Elgin USA 0510687". This style of watch is called a swing-out case model. The front cover is unscrewed and the hinged movement swings out of the case so it can be serviced. There is a small lever at 2 o'clock on the front of the watch that is pulled out to set the correct time.

The watch winds & keeps time for several hours, but has not been timed for accuracy past that point. We sell these watches as they are and as you see them. Minor marks, dirt, scuff can be expected. Please look over the pictures closely.

There is an old 1935 dated US $1 silver certificate dollar bill note included with this lot. It helps us demonstrate the size of the watch in the pictures.
