Antique 1872 American Watch Co. Coin Silver Key Wind Pocket Watch Runs ETC9756

Here is an 1872 key wind and key set American Watch Co. (Waltham) pocket watch. It is an 11 jewel PS Bartlett model 1857. The serial number is 622118, which indicates it was made in 1872. This rugged watch is known as an 18 size (2 1/4" in diameter). It is full plate, lever set with gold wash movement & a Foggs patent in a heavy solid coin silver (.900 fine silver) watch case. The Foggs patent is a safety pinion invented by Charles W Fogg in 1865. It was a critical advancement in American horology, preventing damage to the mechanics of the watch should the mainspring break. This mechanical, key wind watch is in excellent working condition. I carried it around for a few days to give it movement after it had likely been sitting idle for several years. The watch winds, runs and keeps accurate time over a 48 hour period.
