Antique 1899 Illinois Pocket Watch Runs ETC10196

1 in stock

Here is a large, ruggedly built pocket watch made in Springfield, Illinois that still runs great after 125 years. This is a heavy 18 size watch (nearly 2 1/4" in diameter). This nickel movement is known as an open face, lever set, 11 jewel, full plate, Roman numeral dial, model 6, grade 99. There were only 17,190 of this grade and model produced. Illinois Watch was known for high-end quality timepieces. The movement swings out of the case in the front to see the movement inside. You have to pull the top winding cap out just a little to open the case, or you will break the winding shaft when you swing it out. To set the time, you unscrew (counterclockwise) the front cover with the thick glass in it off the watch case and set it aside. Then, use your fingernail to pull out the tiny lever at 2 o'clock being careful not to pull it off. Then you set the time at the top of the watch by turning the splined cap. After setting the time, you need to push the lever back in and screw the front cover back on. Condition wise, the watch is in excellent condition. I see a few tiny hairlines in the dial, which are hardly noticeable and do not affect the beauty or performance of the watch. This mechanical, winding type movement winds, runs & keeps accurate time over the 48 hours I timed it. We sell watches AS IS: dirt, minor marks & minor damages from typical use.
