Here is a large old (swing out style) pocket watch that was made in Springfield Illinois in 1919. This watch is a 16 size, (52+ millimeters, about 2 inches across). This movement is a 17-jewel model 7 grade 305 stem set stem wind. This is a swing out nickel movement and watchcase.
The movement swings out from the front of the watch to see inside the watch for amusement or service. To swing out the movement from the case. Unscrew the front glass cover. Then you have to pull out the splined round stem at the top enough to disengage the winding shaft from the interior of the movement. DO NOT pull it all the way out of the watchcase body because that will damage the watch. To swing-out the case after you have pulled up on that stem, gently pry the movement out of the case with your fingernail while turning the winding stem. It closes the same in reverse. It's amazing how many tiny parts are all moving at the same time inside.
This watch was built for the rugged construction and mining trades industry to serve as a reliable and accurate timepiece in an early 1900’s industrial revolution. The watch is in excellent condition showing only lite use… The mechanical (winding type) (105) year old watch winds, runs and keeps accurate time over the 24 hours I timed it….
